Home > Installation > Preparation for Install

Step 1: Remove the backing plates

1. Remove the backing plates from the swivel and pole holder using a 3/16 Allen key.

Step 2: Install bungee on to the pole holder

1. Remove the ball from the bungee.

2. You may undo the knot or cut it as close to the knot as possible.

3. Thread one end of the bungee through the hole of the pole holder.

4. Make sure both ends of the bungee cords are even.

5. Put the plastic ball back onto the bungee.

6. Adjust the bungee so that the pressure on the pole would be correct then tie a simple square knot.

7. Before cutting the excess from the bungee, check the tension by using it on the pole.

8. After all adjustments are made cut off the excess ends.

9. Burn the ends to prevent fraying.

Step 3: Putting the anchor pole together

1. Apply anti-seize on all the screw ends of the anchor pole, tip, and shackle end. Also apply anti-seize to the inside thread of the anchor pole openings.

2. Install the tip to the anchor pole by first loosening the set screws to the anchor pole using a 1/8 inch Allen key.

3. Hand-tighten the anchor tip onto the anchor pole.

4. Then tighten down the set screws. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN (this may cause damage to threaded rod and prevent removal of the tip).

5. Next put the D-ring on to the shackle end of the anchor pole.

6. Loosen set screws on the anchor pole using a 1/8 inch Allen key.

7. Hand-tighten the shackle end onto the anchor pole.

8. Tighten down the set screws. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN (this may cause damage to threaded rod and prevent removal of shackle end).

9. To prevent damage to the threads, just tighten until the set screws prevent the rods from unscrewing. That is tight enough. After operation, periodically check set screws.

Step 4: Apply double sided tape to swivel and pole holder

1. Apply the double sided tape to the back of the backing plates. Make sure not to cover the screw holes. *The double sided tape will secure the backing plates to the inside of the kayak. This will keep the backing plates in place when removing the swivel or pole holder from the kayak.

2. Apply double sided tape to the back of the pole holder and swivel.

*This is only for finding the proper placement on the kayak before installing the swivel and pole holder to the kayak. The double sided tape is to be removed from the pole holder and swivel before the final installation.
